Winning Artwork to be Featured in U.S. Capitol for One Year

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Al Lawson (FL-05) is now accepting submissions for the 2018 Congressional Art Competition. This annual art contest, held by members of the U.S. House of Representatives, highlights the creative talents of students in each of the congressional districts.

“I am pleased to host the Congressional Art Competition for students in Florida’s 5th Congressional District,” said Rep. Lawson. “Art is a way for our students to express themselves and showcase their creativity. I am excited to see all of this year’s entries.”

The competition is open to students in grades 7-12.  Winners from each congressional district will receive two tickets to fly to Washington, D.C., to attend a congressional reception and see the unveiling of their artwork in the U.S. Capitol. The artwork will remain on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year, where it may be viewed by the millions of visitors. The winning artwork will also be featured on the U.S. House’s Congressional Art Competition webpage.

Artwork and application materials are due to Rep. Lawson’s district office by Friday, April 20. To enter, students must e-mail a high-resolution photograph of the artwork submission and the completed Student Information and Release Form to Jessika Eglin at Jessika.Eglin@mail.house.gov. Winners will be announced in early May.
