U. S. Rep. Lawson to be in Tallahassee April 18-22
Tallahassee, Fla. – U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-5) will be in Tallahassee, Fla., April 18-22 to host two town hall meetings, meet with organizations and business leaders, and participate in the Madison County 36th Annual Down Home Days Festival and Parade.
On Tuesday, he will work out of his new Tallahassee office on North Macomb Street. At 2:30 p.m. he will host a conference call with Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam, officials from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and School Nutrition Directors from all eight counties in Florida’s fifth congressional district to discuss the nutrition needs in Florida’s schools and the upcoming farm bill.
In Lawson’s district, one in every four Floridians have been on food stamps at some point over the last 12 months, which is twice the national average. Food insecurity is a real issue for children, families, and communities in North Florida, and this call is an opportunity to figure out how to improve nutrition and access to affordable and healthy food. As a member of the House Agriculture Committee, Lawson will be a key voice in the upcoming discussions surrounding the farm bill.
On Tuesday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Lawson will host a town hall meeting at Bethel Family Life Center. Press should arrive by 5 p.m. for pre-set.
On Wednesday, Lawson will meet with several local small business owners and organizations such as the American Legion. In the afternoon, he will visit the State Capitol for meetings with state legislators. From 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Lawson will host a town hall meeting in Quincy at the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce.
On Thursday, Lawson will speak during the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce meeting and hear from members about what they would like to see happen in Florida’s fifth Congressional district.
