Rep. Lawson Named to the Powerful House Financial Services Committee
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-05) has been appointed to serve on the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee in the 116th Congress. The Financial Services Committee is regarded as one of the Houses’ top committees because of the prominent issues under its jurisdiction, which include oversight of federal monetary policy, the nation’s housing and financial services sectors including banking, insurance, real estate, and securities.
“I am deeply thankful for this opportunity to serve this important committee that directly affects so many of the citizens in North Florida,” Rep. Lawson said. “I will use this platform to fight for policies to reform and strengthen Wall Street, make flood insurance more affordable and provide greater access to capital for aspiring entrepreneurs and small businesses -- from local barbershops to high tech-start-ups.”
As a licensed insurance and financial counselor, Rep. Lawson has helped working families find the right solutions to meeting their long-term goals, including planning for college, retirement, estate planning and personal and business investments. He knows first-hand the intricate operations of the many financial products on the market and how they effect consumers.
