Rep. Lawson Announces Launch of SBA Grant Program for Closed Performance Venues

Through the American Rescue Plan, Rep. Lawson Helped Secure Additional Funding for Local Venue Businesses Hurt by COVID-19

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (FL-05) announced that the Small Business Administration is accepting applications for its Shuttered Venue Operators Grant (SVOG) Program. Rep. Lawson helped secure additional funding for the program as part of the American Rescue Plan’s support for small businesses. The program includes more than $16 billion in grants for shuttered venues.

“Venue operators have been hit especially hard by this pandemic,” Rep. Lawson said. “I’ve spoken to many business owners and need relief now. The opening of the Shuttered Venue Operators Grants program is another pivotal step toward crushing this virus, getting people back in jobs and revitalizing our economy. These grants will help our local business owners put paychecks back in workers’ pockets, avoid permanent closures, cover rent payments and more. I’m grateful that the SBA understands the need for this crucial program, which will provide vital assistance to support this industry during this burdensome time.”

Venue operators can use their grants for payroll costs, rent payments, utility payments, and worker protection expenditures.

Applicants must have been in operation as of February 29, 2020. A venue or promoter who received a PPP loan on or after December 27, 2020, will have the SVOG reduced by the PPP loan amount.
