Lawson Appointed to House Agriculture Committee
Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Al Lawson (D-Tallahassee) today was appointed to serve on the House Agriculture Committee for the 115th Congress. The Agriculture Committee has broad jurisdiction over a variety of issues from nutrition, biotechnology, horticulture and research, conservation and forestry issues to renewable energy, supplemental nutrition assistance programs, food transparency and security, and urban agriculture.
“Agriculture is a more than $120 billion industry in Florida and one of the strongest pillars of our state’s economy supporting more than 2 million jobs,” said Lawson. “I am pleased to serve on this committee, this is an exciting time for American agriculture, and particularly Florida agriculture. I look forward to working with the committee on urban agriculture and food desert issues in the inner cities of the 5th Congressional District, as well as working on some of the rural development and crop issues facing our rural farmers.”
Florida’s 5th Congressional District covers all or parts of Gadsden, Leon, Jefferson, Madison, Hamilton, Columbia, Baker, and Duval counties.
